(cz) Český výzkumník Tomáš strávil v thajských a laoských horách téměř dva roky, aby se za každou cenu dopátral příčin křivd a násilí, která jsou na Akhajích a jejich dětech páchána.
Domorodý horský národ Akha žijící na území zlatého trojúhelníku se absurdně stává obětí rozvojových programů západních civilizací. Mladý český výzkumník se opakovaně do těchto oblastí vrací, aby kmeni Akha pomohl. Postupem času se s vesničany natolik sblíží, že ho mezi sebe přijímají. Čím více do problematiky mezinárodní pomoci proniká, tím více se stává pro některé západní organizace na území Thajska a Laosu nežádoucím. Za dramatických okolností je donucen tuto oblast opustit a přináší tak otřesná svědectví o humanitární katastrofě, která tento národ likviduje.
Dramatický dokument o malém horském etniku byl zpracován podle skutečné události.

Fishing is part of their ancestral traditions and is their only form of support. On the other hand, commercial fisherman have no problems obtaining fishing permits. During the upcoming fishing season, which runs from February to May, the Sixth Delegation of the EZLN, along with adherents of “The Other Campaign” will set up camp in the Mexicali dessert community of the Mayor Cucapa, and will join the local community in exercizing their rights to fish in a peaceful, civil disobedient campaign for social change and justice. For those of you who would like to support the cause, a monetary donation would be greatly appreciated.

(en) Is it possible for a photograph to change the world? Photographs taken by soldiers in Abu Ghraib prison changed the war in Iraq and changed Americas image of itself. Yet, a central mystery remains. Did the notorious Abu Ghraib photographs constitute evidence of systematic abuse by the American military, or were they documenting the aberrant behavior of a few bad apples? We set out to examine the context of these photographs. Why were they taken? What was happening outside the frame? We talked directly to the soldiers who took the photographs and who were in the photographs. Who are these people? What were they thinking? Over two years of investigation, we amassed a million and a half words of interview transcript, thousands of pages of unredacted reports, and hundreds of photographs. The story of Abu Ghraib is still shrouded in moral ambiguity, but it is clear what happened there. The Abu Ghraib photographs serve as both an expose and a coverup. An expose, because the photographs offer us a glimpse of the horror of Abu Ghraib; and a coverup because they convinced journalists and readers they had seen everything, that there was no need to look further. In recent news reports, we have learned about the destruction of the Abu Zubaydah interrogation tapes. A coverup. It has been front page news. But the coverup at Abu Ghraib involved thousands of prisoners and hundreds of soldiers. We are still learning about the extent of it. Many journalists have asked about the smoking gun of Abu Ghraib. It is the wrong question. As Philip Gourevitch has commented, Abu Ghraib is the smoking gun. The underlying question that we still have not resolved, four years after the scandal: how could American values become so compromised that Abu Ghraiband the subsequent coverupcould happen?

Bakunin's Bum is the newest 'beats & strings' musical/spoken word collaboration between Norman Nawrocki & beat meister/drummer Aidan from 1 Speed Bike, Exhaust & Godspeed You! Black Emporer.
Their first recording is a benefit CD for the radical Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP). It features excerpts from a speech given by two OCAP members in Montréal in December 2000, which Aidan & Norman have set to original music. Aidan provides the beats, Norman plays violin, viola, cello & odd instruments.
Author, actor, violinist, sex advocate, educator, Norman Nawrocki is a Vancouver-born, Montreal-based, internationally-acclaimed cabaret artist known for his provocative and topical work.
Aidan is a long-time Montréal activist/musician & member of the city's anarchist bookstore collective, The Librairie Alternative. His first solo album, 'droopy butt begone!' bakunin's bum is aidan on drums and norman nawrocki (rhythm activism and da zoque!). as the subtitle suggests, this is a benefit album for OCAP. the music is very similar to that of 1-speed bike (using some of the same loops in places), but also features spoken word speech by two anti-poverty activists that has been edited to the music.

Anti-militarist activists entered the ITT/EDO MBM arms factory in Moulescombe, Brighton in the early hours of this morning, where they are believed to have caused extensive damage to the offices, and to equipment used to make arms, including the 'zero retention force arming units' and 'ejector release unit 151' which the Smash EDO/ITT campaign says are supplied to the Israeli Air Force. The campaign became aware of the action when they received a phone call from those inside the factory this morning who said that they were 'decommissioning' the factory in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who are currently at the receiving end of the factories products.
The arms factory has been targetted by the Smash EDO Campaign for a number of years. In 2005 EDO MBM took High Court action in an attempt to curtail protest at the factory. They lost the action, which proved to be an expensive own-goal as it gave the campaign increased exposure, and brought it to national attention. In 2008 the factory was taken over by ITT.
Weekly protests have been held outside the factory since 2004, and there have been a number of national demos, at the factory and on the streets of Brighton. On October 15th, the SHUT ITT Demo succeeded in shutting the factory for the day.
According to reports in the national media, todays action may have the effect of shutting down the factory for some time. The BBC quotes Det Ch Insp Graham Pratt as saying: "Windows had been smashed and offices turned over in what I would describe as wanton vandalism, but with machinery and equipment so targeted that it could have been done with a view of bringing business to a standstill....The damage is significant and the value substantial."
Prior to entering the factory, the activists made a video (attached) in which they explained their reasons for the action. One commented: "Israel are committing a gross crime now in Gaza. Israel have killed hundreds of children. I think its absolutely disgusting that weapons made in our cities and in our country are being used to kill innocent women and children. They have been used indiscriminately. If the law and the police cant do anything about it its about time somebody else did."
About 30 police are believed to have attended the factory, where they witnessed computers and office equipment being thrown out of first floor windows. Nine people are believed to have been arrested and taken to the Hollingbury and Worthing Police Stations, where police say they are being held on 'suspicion of burglary'. One protestor is believed to have required hospital treatment.

The campaign Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) was set up at the end of 1999 by a group of activists who had successfully closed down lab animal breeders, Consort kennels and Hillgrove cat farm. Both of these campaigns ended with the businesses closing down and hundreds of animals being safely rehomed instead of tortured in laboratories.
In 1996 SHAC started a campaign against Consort kennels near Hereford. Over eight hundred beagles were kept at the kennels waiting to be sold to labs like Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS).
The campaign was intense, involving daily demonstrations, national demonstrations and regular all night vigils. During the campaign three rescue operations took place seeing 26 beagles go free to safe and loving homes. After just ten months of campaigning they could take no more pressure and the kennels closed in July 1997. A total of 200 beagles were successfully rehomed following the closure.
To strike a sombre note we must never forget that it was Huntingdon Life Sciences who bought all the breeding beagles from Consort before they closed.
In September 1997 the campaign moved swiftly against the last remaining UK breeder of cats for vivisection, Hillgrove farm near Witney, Oxfordshire run by the obnoxious Christopher and Katherine Brown. Hillgrove sold kittens worldwide for experiments from ten days old and held over 1,000 cats in windowless sheds at the back of the farm. The scale of the campaign really begun to take off at this point seeing many demonstrations at the farm and the city centre of Oxford.
After unbelievable pressure Hillgrove buckled and closed after an 18 month campaign in August 1999. It was headline news all around the world as over 800 cats were rescued from the farm and rehomed on the night of August 12th 1999.
The most important lesson from all these campaigns is to remember that all those animals would still be inside Consort and Hillgrove if we had waited for politicians to act. The lesson is that if we really want these hell holes to close then we have got to do it ourselves - action is what it is all about. We have to fight to win.
Following these victories we launched a global campaign against Europe's largest animal testing facility, Huntingdon Life Sciences. We hope that you will join us in this fight to free the 70,000 animals locked inside waiting to die.
SHAC is an innovative campaign, and has received worldwide media coverage for the success of its methods, the intelligence of its tactics and the determination of its supporters.
Two million members of the public have signed a petition to have HLS closed, thousands have protested and we can prove that HLS are responsible for animal cruelty and lawbreaking over and over again. During one study involving wild caught primates, HLS broke the law over 520 times. The Government have failed to close HLS so it is up to each and everyone of us to close them down.
SHAC is an international campaign, and the first of its kind, with SHAC groups in the UK, USA, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and many other countries all uniting to target HLS and the companies that support them globally.
SHAC is made up of compassionate people from all walks of life and people of all ages from children to pensioners. All of us are outraged at the existence of HLS and all of us are doing as much as we can to make sure that this evil company is closed down for good.
SHAC takes a three tier approach, campaigning against customers who provide HLS with an income and profits; suppliers who provide HLS with vital tools to carry out research and financial links such as shareholders, market makers and banking facilities. SHAC has called on a mass boycott of HLS and is calling on all companies that do business with Huntingdon to turn their backs on animal cruelty. If you are happy to pay for, or profit from the cruelty HLS inflict on innocent animals then you are just as much responsible as the vivisectors themselves.
This is where SHAC supporters play a vital role. Many companies working with HLS may not be aware of their history of animal cruelty, falsified data and negligence, so by taking part in letter writing, email campaigns and peaceful protests calling on the boycott of HLS you can bring the issue to their attention. ---text--- Vzpomínám, jak jsme s kamarádem chytili kdesi na stavbě myšku. Vylezli jsme s ní na střechu olomoucké kuželkárny (jako děti jsme na té střeše trávili hodně času), přivázali jsme jí provázek na ocásek a hráli si s ní. Když se od nás rozběhla, kousek jsme ji nechali, pak jsme ji pomalu táhli zpět, nebo jsme trhli, a měli legraci z jejího boje o život.
Chodili jsme po střeše, tahali ji za sebou, pak jsme i běhali, spouštěli jsme ji ze střechy, zase vytahovali nahoru, rozhoupali ji do stran, točili s ní nad hlavou a nakonec jsem s ní praštil o zeď.
Na začátku naší hry se myška snažila utéct. Potom už se jen třásla na místě. Přece jsme viděli, že má strach, že se snaží uniknout těm velkým dětským rukám, dostat se do bezpečí. Tak proč jsme ji nenechali? Protože to bylo zábavné a zajímavé? Protože její strach, bolest a život byly jen strachem, bolestí a životem naší hračky? Jak to, že mě to tenkrát vůbec nebolelo? Až dnes.

Každý rok umírá na svete pet milionu lidí na následky kourení. Denne tedy zemre na 30 000 kuráku. Ve 20. století zemrelo sto milionu kuráku, a pokud se tento trend nezmení, tak v našem 21. století jich zemre celá miliarda. Jde o pandemii, které se lidstvo dobrovolne vystavuje a jež je zdrojem prímo pohádkových príjmu nekolika velkých svetových tabákových firem. Vydelávají miliardy na na nicení zdraví miliard lidí - kuráku i nekuráku. Tabákové koncerny se v USA a západní Evrope už více než pred padesáti lety sjednotily v postupu vuci verejnému mínení. Spojování kourení a výskytu rakoviny ignorovaly, i když si tohoto faktu byly vedomy, a verejnost zahrnuly svádivou reklamou. Vetší problémy jim nastaly v 90. letech 20. století, kdy 46 státu USA podalo spolecnou žalobu na tabákový prumysl ve veci ohrožování zdraví lidu. Velká protitabáková kampan se rozjela také v západní Evrope.
Na to reagovaly koncerny stylem "mrtvého brouka" a presmerováním prímé reklamy na sponzorování ruzných sportovních a kulturních akcí. Nejvetší aktivitu projevily na nových trzích ve východní Evrope a ve státech Afriky a Asie, kde regulace kourení je takrka nulová. (oficiální text distributora)
