(en) A documentary examining the tragedy which occured in West Philadelphia on May 13, 1985, when 11 people died and 61 families lost their homes in a fire which resulted from a police-orchestrated firebombing of the neighborhood. The tragedy occured as a result of a confrontation between the city of Philadelphia and the members of the Black radical organization known as MOVE.
On Mother's Day, 1985, a virtual army of city and state police converged on a quiet block in historic Cobb's Creek, a blossoming neighborhood of parks and children, aluminum siding and basketball stars nestled in the heart of Philadelphia's African American community. By the next day, 61 homes were destroyed and 11 people were dead, all members of the communitarian MOVE organization. In this, the winner of 1987's Global Village Best Documentary Award, Massiah establishes the setting for the tragedy early on, and Toni Cade Bambara's poetic narration draws us deeper into the drama.
Neighbors recall the coming of MOVE members, unusual in their back-to-nature lifestyle, and the incidents -- including trash thrown into their yards amd profanities blasting over loudspeakers -- which caused their relationship with the community to deteriorate almost immediately. Eventually the close-knit community called on city officials to deal with MOVE members, unwittingly opening a Pandora's Box. The bombing referred to in the documentary's title was ordered by the Philadelphia police with the acquiescence of then-mayor, W. Wilson Goode, shortly after a 90-minute gun battle with 500 hundred city police officers ensued.
Of all the television hours devoted to this internationally infamous event, Massiah's documentary is possibly the first to look at the real human loss, not only in the deaths that include a number of MOVE children, but the proud community of families that survived race wars and gang wars, only to be nearly destroyed by its own city.

Although several men were charged with killing the agents, only one, Leonard Peltier, was found guilty. This film describes the events surrounding the shootout and suggests that Peltier was unjustly convicted.

The loss of natural habitats is the single main cause for the global loss of biodiversity, a living nature. In order to preserve a living forest landscape in Sweden, all remaining natural and old-growth forests with high conservation values need to be protected. More than 1,800 forest-living plant and animal species are listed on the Swedish red-list as near-threatened and endangered species, and a large proportion of these species are linked to these forests.
According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency only a few percent of high conservation value forests remain below the mountain region (sub-alpine forests) in Sweden. It is time to stop all old-growth forest logging plans. Moreover, suitable forest habitats need to be restored to reach sufficient area and quality in accordance with the recommendations of current nature conservation science.
The depletion of the forest ecosystem does not only force away a variety of forest species – it also has a negative impact on human beings. A living forest ecosystem is fundamental to essential processes such as regulation of air quality, climate regulation, water regulation, water purification, pollination, and mitigation of natural disasters.
A sustainable Swedish forestry, which takes the safeguarding of biodiversity seriously, cannot be achieved in a situation where 95 percent of the productive forests are exploited, and where only a few percent of the forest land are set aside for nature conservation. The Swedish Government and the Swedish Forest Industries Federation advocate further forestry intensification, with methods such as stump extraction, increased use of non-native tree species, restoration of ditches, and fertilization, which threaten the biodiversity even more. Sweden is committed, internationally and nationally, to stop the loss of biodiversity and it is our duty, to future generations, to abide by these obligations. The current negative trend must be reversed immediately and the Swedish Parliament and Government must take their responsibility.

Acclaimed Sports Illustrated and The Nation sportswriter Dave Zirin was in Vancouver from Jan 20-21 2010 to speak about activism, sports and the Olympics as part of a series entitled "Politics in the Ring."
Zirin talked about the idea of activist athletes, what they've fought for, and what they've opposed. From feminist uprisings against wearing corsets in tennis, to Muhammad Ali's activist conversion after his Olympic win, Zirin showed that sports has the power to extend beyond just spectacle.
Versed in the history of sports, Zirin was critical of the hypocritical stance the International Olympic Committee has taken on several issues over the past century.

(cz) V pátek 25. ledna 2008 se v Příbrami konal pohřeb Jana Kučery, který byl před dvěma lety v noci z 18. na 19. ledna smrtelně pobodán neonacistou Jiřím Fousem.
Před obřadní síní se sešli Honzovi příbuzní, přátelé rodiny, kamarádi, známí, antifašisté, skinheadi, punkeři... Přišlo asi na čtyři sta lidí. Někteří se po obřadu vypravili na smuteční pochod k místu, kde byl Honza smrtelně zraněn. Tam položili květiny a zapálili svíčky. Reportáž z pohřbu si můžete přečíst na stránkách nezapomeneme.antifa.cz.
Dva roky od této události a jako vzpomínku na Honzu přinášíme videoklip, který pohřeb stručně dokumentuje. Jako hudební doprovod je použita píseň "Heart full of Pride" Honzovy oblíbené kapely Perkele, která také zazněla při samotném smutečním obřadu.

(pl) Na kanale filmowym niezależnych filmowców z poznańskiej Szum.TV udostępniony został krótkometrażowy film dokumentalny pt. "Płyta", przedstawiający pokrótce początki działalności związkowej Marcela Szarego i okoliczności, które ukształtowały obecne poglądy i sposoby walki związkowca.
Marcel Szary jest działaczem Ogólnopolskiego Związku Zawodowego Inicjatywa Pracownicza oraz przedstawicielem załogi w zarządzie zakładów H. Cegielski w Poznaniu. W czasach PRL-u był działaczem podziemnej „Solidarności”. Nie zgadzając się z jej ugodową polityką zrezygnował z przynależności do związku. W czerwcu 2004 roku stał się jednym z organizatorów komisji Inicjatywy Pracowniczej w HCP, która obecnie walczy w obronie miejsc pracy oraz o lepsze warunki dla tych, którzy nie padli ofiarą tegorocznych masowych zwolnień.
Film nawiązuje przy tym do wieców nazywanych potocznie "płytami". Jest to tradycyjna forma okazywania przez pracowników HCP niezadowolenia z warunków pracy i płacy, której tradycja sięga lat 50-tych. W 2007 i 2008 roku na terenie Cegielskiego wybuchł zatarg płacowy, podczas którego odbyło się kilka "płyt". Za "organizację i kierowanie" tymi spontanicznymi strajkami Szary został skazany przez Sąd Rejonowy w Poznaniu na karę wysokiej grzywny.

IPNa filmovém kanálu nezávislých filmařů z poznaňské Szum.TV byl zpřístupněn krátkometrážní dokumentární film "Płyta", představující ve zkratce počátky a odborářskou aktivitu Marcela Szarego a okolnosti, které utvářely jeho současné názory a způsoby odborářského boje.
Marcel Szary je členem Celopolského odborového svazu Iniciativa pracujících a představitelem zaměstnanců ve vedení podniku H. Cegielski v Poznani (HCP). Před rokem 1989 byl členem podzemní „Solidarności”. Avšak nesouhlasil s její reformistickou politikou a vystoupil ze svazu. V červnu roku 2004 se stal jedním z organizátorů základní organizace Iniciativy pracujících v HCP, která v současnosti bojuje za záchranu pracovních míst a za lepší pracovní podmínky pro ty, kteří se nestali obětmi letošního masového propuštění.
Film přitom navazuje na akce nazývané hovorově "płytami" (označení divoké stávky). Je to tradiční forma, jak zaměstnanci HCP ukazují svojí nespokojenost s pracovními podmínkami a mzdami, její tradice sahá do 50. let. V letech 2007 a 2008 na půdě HCP propukl mzdový spor, během kterého proběhlo několik "płyt". Za "organizaci a řízení" těchto spontánních stávek byl Szary odsouzen Obvodním soudem v Poznani vysokou finanční pokutou.
Film byl realizován společnými silami Szum.TV, visualArt a Emila Gawina, délka 12 min.

(en) Explore the world of natural building and meet some of its pioneers who are creating beautiful and inexpensive houses out of earth and straw, houses that you can make, too. This is a way of building that can transform how you see the earth and yourself.
This DVD takes you to visit: Linda Smiley and Ianto Evans who pioneered the use of building with earth, straw and sand called cob in the U.S. and who now run the North American School of Natural Building in Coquille, Oregon where they and their students have used natural building methods to create a little village. Coenraad and Courtney Rogmans who took a piece of undeveloped land, built straw bale and cob buildings complete with solar electricity and a water catchment system, and who teach natural building workshops.
White Oak Farm, an organic farm and educational center, which is putting the final touches on a striking timber-framed straw bale and cob community center.
Brendan Flanagan, with his family and friends, turned a remote wooded hillside into a snug community of homes and gardens.
Rob Bolman, an advocate of incorporating natural building techniques into mainstream building practices, who created an ecovillage in the middle of Eugene, Oregon, and who speaks passionately about the link between natural building and social justice.
Meka Bunch who after only a week-long workshop, built his own elegant cob cottage and who works sharing natural building with people abroad.
Kiko Denzer, a sculptor and cob builder, and his wife Hannah, an organic gardener and baker, who transformed a dilapidated outbuilding in the country into a cozy cob home surrounded by beautiful gardens.

(en) Mark is an intelligent but shy teenager who has just moved to Arizona from the East Coast. His parents give him a short-wave radio so he can talk to his pals, but instead he sets up shop as pirate deejay Hard Harry, who becomes a hero to his peers while inspiring the wrath of the local high school principal. When one of Harry's listeners commits suicide and Harry- inspired chaos breaks out at the school, the authorities are called in to put a stop to Harry's broadcasts.
(sk) Christian Slater v úlohe mladého chalana z New Yorku, je nútený sa presťahovať do malého mestečka v Arizone, kde jeho otec dostal skvelú prácu. Sám, bez kamarátov, bez priateľky, znudený životom, začne rozprávať do éteru cez krátkovlnnú vysielačku ktorú mu kúpil otec, aby mohol komunikovať s priateľmi. Jeho večerné monológy sa stanú populárne medzi miestnymi tínedžermi, a z obyčajného slušného chlapca cez deň, sa v noci stáva Dj HARD HARRY, idol miestnych tínedžerov a klinec v zadku riaditeľky strednej školy. Tvrdá hudba a oplzlé reči striedajú hlboké myšlienky o starostiach stredoškolákov. Silu svojho vplyvu si uvedomí, keď sa jeden z jeho poslucháčov zabije. Rozbieha sa tak sled udalostí, ktoré spravia z malého pokojného mestečka vriaci kotol, v ktorom vypláva na povrch veľa špinavostí.
Tento film je zo života amerických tínedžerov 90. rokov, ale načrtáva tu mnoho vecí ktoré budú asi aktuálne vždy. Harry v svojich vystúpeniach preberie samovraždu, zmysel života, pocity osamelosti a iné problémy, ktoré trápia mladých ľudí po celom svete. Filmu nechýba zmysel pre humor, no ale aj dramatický dej, napätie a optimistický ladený koniec, aj keď určite nie v zmysle klasického happyendu.

April 15 is Steal Something From Work Day!
Does your boss work less than you but take home a bigger paycheck? Is somebody zipping around in a private jet at your expense? If the corporation is making money at the end of the day, that means they’re not paying you the full value of your labor – that’s where corporate profit comes from! So if you need something in your workplace, take it. You earned it!
It could be a paper clip, or some cash out of the register, or full-on embezzlement. If you’re a barista, grab a bag of coffee; if you work at a garage, get a wrench set. If you’re unemployed, take something from someone else’s workplace! Unemployment works for the bosses, too – it forces people to take any job they can, and sends the message to other workers that if they don’t knuckle under they’ll be in for it too.
You could share it with your friends, or give it to your family – the family you never see because of your job. You could use it yourself, to do something you’ve always dreamed of – maybe something making use of all that potential you would fulfill if only you didn’t have to work for someone else all the time.
Steal something from work! Break down the divisions that separate you from your co-workers. Work together to maximize your under-the-table profit-sharing; make sure all of you are safe and getting what you need. Don’t let the boss pit you against each other – in the end, that only makes all of you more vulnerable. Build up enough trust that you can graduate from taking things from work to taking control of your workplace itself!
Chances are you already steal from your work – if not physical items, at least time on the clock. Good for you! But don’t stop there – think of how much more you could take, how much more you deserve.

Nenechajte šéfa, aby vás poštval proti sebe navzájom - koniec koncov Vás to všetkých urobí zraniteľnejšími. Vybudujte si dostatočnú dôveru, od ktorej sa môžte vypracovať od brania vecí z práce k uchopeniu kontroly nad samotným pracoviskom!
Je veľká pravdepodobnosť, že už kradnete niečo z práce - keď nie fyzické veci, prinajmenšom nejaký čas z vášho pracovného času. Dobre pre Vás! Ale nezastavte sa tu - myslite na to, koľko ešte ste toho schopná/ý vziať, koľko si toho zaslúžite.

(en) Expect Resistance is not one but three books, each of which may be read as a complete work unto itself. The first book, printed in standard black ink, continues the inquiry into modern life and its discontents begun in Days of War, Nights of Love. Just as that book included improved versions of texts originally published between 1996 and 1999, this book draws on CrimethInc. material from 2000 to 2004, painstakingly refined and augmented with a great deal of new content. The second book, in red ink, is a composite account, related by three narrators, of the adventures and tribulations that inevitably ensue when people pursuing their dreams enter into conflict with the world as it is.
Together these comprise a third book, an exploration of the complex relationship between ideals and reality. Expect Resistance is a field manual for a field on which all manuals are useless, a meditation on individual transformation and collective resistance in disastrous times, and a masterpiece that raises the bar for radical publishing.

Expect resistace je prakticky manual pro praxi, ve ktere jsou vsechny ostatni manualy k nicemu. Je to pojednani o osobni promene a spolecenske revolte, dilo, ktere zveda latku nezavisleho a radikalniho vydavatelstvi.

The story behind the video
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is proud to announce the Australian launch of our new "Save the Whales" public service announcement (PSA) featuring renowned actress Isabel Lucas.
The announcement is work of Melbourne advertising agency Starship who approached Sea Shepherd with the concept for the awareness campaign.
Starship's Managing Director Geoffrey McDonald Bowll said his team felt compelled to support Sea Shepherd's work protecting the oceans.
“Starship wanted to design, build and promote a PSA for Sea Shepherd to raise much needed funds to shut down whaling in Australia's Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary,” said Geoffrey.
“We hope that through our support and this announcement, one day Sea Shepherd will have an entire fleet of vessels defending the oceans for future generations,” he added.
Along with Geoffrey McDonald Bowll and Production Manager Matthew Peek, the team at Starship worked tirelessly to put together three storyboards, which were then put through rigorous testing to come up with a final design.
All that was then needed was the right voice to speak out for the whales.
Isabel Lucas
Sea Shepherd could not think of a more brave, passionate and dedicated activist and friend of the whales, than Isabel Lucas, also known for her role in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Isabel has stepped up for duty for the oceans numerous times, including raising international awareness by attempting to stop annual slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan in 2007.
Despite a busy filming schedule on the set of the Wolverine Production of Red Dawn in the United States, Isabel readily made herself available to become the face of Sea Shepherd's “Save the Whales” announcement.
With the recent loss of the Ady Gil, Sea Shepherd is now back down to two vessels, the Bob Barker and the Steve Irwin, up against nine vessels of the illegal Japanese whaling fleet.
Sea Shepherd is hoping to raise the funds to even up the odds in defense of the great whales in the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary.
