(en) At the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, the nun Maria is forced to flee her convent. She takes refuge in a brothel, until it is liberated by a woman's anarchist group. Maria joins the group and eventually goes to the front. The women's group faces the problems of fighting not only the nationalists, but also factions on the left seeking to impose a more traditional military structure.
Synopsis: This big-budget Spanish drama pays tribute to the courageous women who sacrificed their lives during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Maria's peaceful life as a nun is shattered when revolutionary anarchists force her and her sisters to flee their convent sanctuary. Maria ends up hiding in a brothel where she meets the good-hearted whore Charo. Their peace is in turn destroyed by the sudden arrival of Pilar, a passionate, idealistic member of the Free Women organization. Her fiery speeches and strong arm tactics compel the hookers and Maria to join their fight. A handsome ex-priest also joins them as they fight with the anarchists in Zaragoza. Following a small victory, the formerly trench-bound, battle-weary women celebrate, but then Maria finds herself faced with the destruction and death that goes with war. Later the former priest informs the women that they will not be allowed to fight upon the front lines and the women are left with broken ideals and angry hearts that lead them into one last, violent battle.
(cz) Film začíná hymnou CNT A Las Barricadas a začne se to pořádně rozjíždět. Soukromé vlastnictví zrušeno, moc přebírá proletariát. Nenávist lidu se vybíjí na buržoazii a představitelích církve. Ty, jež sympatizují s fašismem začnou popravovat. Jedna z hlavních hrdinek tohoto filmu je jeptiška a protože agrese ze strany milice je z jejího pohledu nečitelná, uprchne. Ukryje se mezi prostitutkami, kde přijdou agitovat Mujeres Libres. Po krátkém přesvědčení je donucena s nimi odejít. Avšak postupně zahoří sympatiemi k revoluci. Pak sledujeme odchod hrdinek na frontu a sledujeme všechen ten hnus, který tam probíhal. Revoluce není žádná romantika. Jak to dopadne, to už musíte zjistit sami.

This video shows illegal roadbuilding activities (so-called "fire-prevention" roads) and clearcuts in one of Slovakia's national parks - NAPANT. This is just the peak of an iceberg - there were also illegal insecticide sprays, both aerial and from the ground. Thanks to EU legislation, aerial sprays are not used there anymore. NAPANT territory as water resources protection zone is quite significant and should be protected. However, this is not so. Drain of surface water is influenced by the construction of dams. In addition to dams, forestry, agriculture and tourism affect surface water. In the past there were excessive clearcuts, which led to erosion and then to expansion of agricultural land. All of this reduced absorptive capacity of land and caused rapid rise of surface water and floods. Clearcuts are still there. Inappropriate economic interventions carried out in the woods in the past are still visible in many places. Removing the damage will take decades.

Woody Allen is at his best once again! Well, this movie got some negative reviews, but after watching it I disagreed with them. Whatever Works is smart, witty and extremely funny movie with full of sarcastic dialogues, as you expect from a Woody Allen work. He has never been hesitant in satirizing religion, or Christianity, however Whatever Works increases the dose and expresses Woody's ideas in a more atheistic tone. This hilarious scene explains much more:

* Newborn calves forcibly dragged away from their mothers by their legs, causing emotional distress to both mother and calf
* Cows living in overcrowded sheds on manure-coated concrete flooring
* Workers injecting cows with a controversial bovine growth hormone, used to increase milk production

(en) On the 17.06.2007 art group Ztohoven secretly altered Czech TV broadcast. They inserted footage into the Panorama program of ČT2 channel showing illusionary nuke explosion in picturesque setting of Krkonoše Mountains.
Their aim was to contribute to discussion about media manipulation, hence the entire action was called “The Media Reality”. However in the end, it touched upon many other topics. Regardless of the action’s point, the artists were labeled dangerous hackers and digital pirates. The debate about media (in)dependence swiftly turned into a hoax accusation. Whole hell broke loose as they accidentally tapped system’s weak points, many more than they had originally expected. These days seven members of up to the point anonymous group are dragged from court to court. Fined by the council for public TV and radio broadcast on one side, awarded by National Gallery’s prize NG 333 on the other, Ztohoven members gave birth to an action which, over the period of one year, has grown into unforeseen dimensions.
(cz) Dne 17.6.2007 se umělecká skupina Ztohoven, napojila do vysílání České Televize. Do ranního pořadu Panorama na programu ČT2, vpravili montáž, která zobrazovala fiktivní atomový výbuch v malebné krajině Krkonoš.
Chtěli tím přispět do veřejné debaty o mediální manipulaci - celá akce byla nazvána "Mediální realita". Témat bylo nakonec otevřeno mnohem víc. Nehledě na pointu celého aktu, začali být umělci označováni za nebezpečné hackery nebo digitální piráty. Debata o (ne)závislosti médií se změnila na obžalobu pro šíření poplašné zprávy. Není divu. Píchli do vosího hnízda, dotkli se slabého místa systému a odkryli víc problémů než měli v úmyslu. Nyní je za to sedm členů, dosud anonymní skupiny, vláčeno soudními síněmi. Dostali pokutu od Rady pro rozhlasové a televizní vysílání a na druhou stranu jsou oceněni Národní Galerií, cenou NG333 pro mladé umělce. Celá věc se tak táhne již více než rok a stalo se z ní něco, co si nikdo z členů nepředstavoval.

(en) Moby’s 2008 video “Disco Lies” relates the story of a baby chick who grows up to take revenge on Colonel Sanders, representing KFC’s fast food industry.
A baby chick escapes from a chicken farm, witnessing the slaughtering of his friends. We meet him again years later when he’s a grown up and seeks revenge for the killing of his friends. He eventually finds the killer who owns an MFC fast food restaurant.
This video takes a strong stance against KFC’s cruelty on chicken, and more generally the animal abuse industry.
It’s probably one of the best videos out there, really well produced. The story line is excellent, smart and inspiring. Colonel Sanders having to answer and pay for the mass murder of chickens is absolutely exquisite to watch. The only downside to this video is that it’s not a true story.
Well done, Moby! We can’t wait for more.

(en) In a hard hitting investigation businessman Duncan Bannatyne travels to Malawi, Mauritius and Nigeria and discovers tactics BAT (British American Tobacco) are using which circumvent bans on advertising and raise the profile of cigarettes in countries where doctors are already predicting a potential epidemic of smoking- related diseases. This comes after previous investigations raised concerns at the marketing techniques used by the company - which led BAT to say that they're not targeting youth.
This World travels to Africa with multi-millionaire and star of Dragons' Den, Duncan Bannatyne, to find out why a rising number of children there are smoking.
In Malawi, Nigeria and Mauritius - countries where the number of smoking-related deaths is expected to double in the next 20 years - we report on smoking and the sale of cigarettes.
This is an emotional journey for Bannatyne, who is himself an ex-smoker.
Along the way he meets children as young as 11 who are not only smoking 10 cigarettes a day, but also trying to make a living selling them.
The programme also uncovers evidence of extraordinary marketing tactics used by a British-based cigarette company and investigates claims that it is encouraging young people to smoke.
This World then heads back to London to confront the company.
